A popular and beginner-friendly sushi roll with crab, avocado, and cucumber.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sushi rice (short-grain rice)
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 6 sheets nori (seaweed)
- 8 oz imitation crab or real crab meat, shredded
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1 cucumber, julienned
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- Soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi for serving
Instructions:
- Prepare Sushi Rice: Rinse the sushi rice until water runs clear. Combine rice and water in a pot, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover, cooking for 18 minutes. Let it sit off the heat for 10 minutes. Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, and fold it into the cooked rice. Let it cool.
- Assemble the Roll: Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down. Wet your hands and spread a thin, even layer of rice over the nori. Sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
- Add Fillings: Flip the nori over so the rice is facing down. Lay crab, avocado, and cucumber in the center of the nori.
- Roll: Using the sushi mat, tightly roll the nori, keeping the fillings in the center. Slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.
- Serve: Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.
